About
Quire is a Markdown editor that works the way your writing already does — as a folder. Point it at a directory and the whole folder becomes the working document: a file tree down the left, tabs across the top, and your text in the middle. Nothing is imported. Nothing is converted. Every file stays exactly where you put it, as a plain .md file you can open in any other editor tomorrow. WRITE WITHOUT THE FURNITURE The editor is built for prose, not for configuration. Set a line width and a typeface and the page stays out of your way. Focus mode dims everything except the line you are working on. Typewriter mode keeps that line near the middle of the window instead of sliding to the bottom of the screen. A live word and character count sits in the status bar, and the margin ruler turns your headings into ticks beside the text — click one to jump straight to that section. Four themes ship with it: Letterpress, Foolscap, Blueprint and Nocturne. Choose a writing face for the editor independently of the theme, and set the type size and measure to whatever reads comfortably on your screen. SEE IT AS IT WILL LOOK Toggle a live preview beside the editor and your Markdown renders as you type — headings, lists, tables, task lists, blockquotes, code blocks with syntax highlighting, and images loaded from the folder itself. Turn it off again when the text is all you want to look at. PASTE A PICTURE STRAIGHT IN Copy a screenshot and paste it into the page. Quire writes the image into an assets folder beside the document and links it for you, using a relative path so the folder stays portable — move it to another machine and every picture still resolves. Dragging an image file in does the same thing. FIND ANYTHING IN THE FOLDER Search runs across every Markdown file under the open folder, not just the file in front of you. Results group by file with the matching line shown in place, so you can see the context before you jump. Case-sensitive and whole-word matching are there when you need them. A command palette puts every action one shortcut away. MANAGE THE FOLDER IN PLACE Create files and folders from the file tree, including directly inside a selected folder. Rename, move and send files or folders to the Recycle Bin without leaving Quire. The toolbar keeps a history of recently opened folders, so switching between writing projects takes one click. DRAG IMAGES INTO YOUR WRITING Click an image in the file tree to preview it. Drag one into a Markdown document and Quire inserts the correct relative image link for its location. Drag or paste an image from outside Quire and it is copied into the document's assets folder and linked portably. YOUR WORK IS NOT AT RISK Files are saved atomically: the new text is written alongside the original and swapped into place only once it is safely on disk, so a crash or a lost battery mid-save cannot leave you with a truncated file. Quire also watches for changes it did not make. If Git, a sync client or another editor rewrites a file while you have it open, the save is stopped and both versions are shown side by side so you decide which one survives. No silent overwrite, ever. Deleting moves a file to the Recycle Bin, never straight to nothing. EVERYTHING STAYS ON YOUR MACHINE There is no account, no sign-in and no cloud. Your files are never uploaded, and Quire does not need a network connection to do anything at all. The only thing it keeps for itself is a small preferences file in your user folder holding your settings, your list of recent folders and which tabs were open. Reopen a folder and it comes back exactly as you left it: the same tabs, in the same order, with the same one in front.
