Bring capable multimodal AI into a workspace you control. Basalt is a private local AI studio for writing, visual understanding, research, structured extraction, and reusable expertise. Choose from a curated model library, chat with text and multiple images, and create focused Skills that are loaded only when relevant. Choose the model that fits your work and your computer: • Qwen3.6 27B and Qwen3.6 35B-A3B for higher-quality multimodal reasoning • Gemma 4 12B for a balanced local text-and-image experience • LFM2.5-VL 450M and 1.6B for fast, lightweight visual tasks • Q4_K_M and Q8_0 options for different memory and quality targets Basalt checks memory and free disk space before every download. Model weights and their required visual projector are handled together, helping prevent incomplete installations and downloads that the device cannot safely run. Chat naturally with streaming output. Paste or attach multiple images, inspect them at their original aspect ratio, and open any image for a larger view. Thinking content can stream separately and collapse when the answer finishes. Every assistant response can show its model, input tokens, output tokens, total tokens, elapsed time, and generation speed. Conversation controls stay flexible. Edit or delete your own messages and assistant responses, regenerate from any assistant message, stop a running response or tool sequence, and keep local history between launches. Basalt warns you when a conversation reaches the model's context limit instead of silently forgetting earlier messages. Create reusable Skills with a name, description, and detailed instructions. Capable models can also work with local files, inspect images, save and edit text files, and run commands. Sensitive commands pause for your approval, while progress and tool results remain visible in the conversation. The complete system prompt is visible and editable in Settings, with one-click restore. Generation controls include context length, maximum output, sampling options, optional thinking suppression, tool-call limits, and command approval preferences. Your conversations, Skills, model files, and settings stay on your device. No account is required. Basalt supports nine interface languages and automatically uses available graphics acceleration before falling back to system memory or CPU execution.
