Folio turns PDFs, scanned pages and photographed documents into clean, editable text on your own computer. Recognition happens locally on your machine, so the files you read never get uploaded, queued on a server or counted against a monthly page allowance. Import a contract, a research paper, a stack of receipts or a book chapter, and Folio reads each page in turn, saving the result the moment the page is finished. You can watch the text appear page by page, open any page in the built-in editor, fix anything the recognizer got wrong, and export the finished document as Markdown, plain text, HTML or JSON. WORKS COMPLETELY OFFLINE After the one-time setup, Folio needs no internet connection at all. There is no account to create, no subscription to manage and no sign-in screen. Your documents, results, settings and history stay in a folder on your own drive, and nothing is transmitted anywhere. READS REAL-WORLD DOCUMENTS Folio was built for pages that are not simple paragraphs of text. It handles multi-column layouts, tables, mathematical formulas, charts and stamps, and it reproduces the structure as Markdown rather than flattening everything into one long line. Scanned pages and phone photos are supported alongside digital PDFs. NO PAGE LIMITS Because everything runs on your own hardware, there is nothing metering your use. Import a five-page form or a five-hundred-page report; the only limit is your own patience and disk space. REVIEW AND CORRECT EVERY PAGE Document Studio shows the original page image beside the recognized text. Step through the pages, compare against the source, and edit the text directly. Your edits are saved and preserved. If one page came out poorly, you can re-run just that page without touching the rest of the document or losing corrections you already made elsewhere. SURVIVES INTERRUPTIONS Every finished page is written to disk immediately. If you close the app, lose power or restart the computer in the middle of a long document, Folio keeps the pages it already finished and picks up from where it stopped. EXPORT IN THE FORMAT YOU NEED Export finished documents individually or in batches as Markdown, plain text, HTML or JSON, and optionally keep a copy of the original file alongside the result. Choose where the files are written using a normal folder picker. AVAILABLE IN NINE LANGUAGES The interface is available in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish and Italian, and can be switched at any time from Settings. Folio recognizes text in many more languages than the interface itself offers. YOU STAY IN CONTROL Nothing is downloaded behind your back. Folio tells you what it needs, shows you the size, and waits for you to confirm before fetching anything. You can see exactly where your data is stored, clear temporary files whenever you want, and pause or resume processing on demand. GOOD FOR Researchers digitizing papers and archive material, students turning lecture handouts into searchable notes, lawyers and accountants working with confidential contracts and statements, writers converting printed sources into drafts, and anyone who wants document recognition without handing their files to a cloud service. REQUIREMENTS Windows 10 version 1809 or later, 64-bit. A one-time setup downloads the recognition engine and model files, which need several gigabytes of free disk space. At least 8 GB of RAM is recommended; more memory and a modern processor make recognition faster.
